Breakfast Nook Makeover

Our home was built in 2011, so we have an open concept kitchen, living room, and breakfast area. Our breakfast nook is large, but was lacking personality. It was strangely designed with 2 builder grade chandeliers. We have not had any issues with our home except with the light fixtures. We have had 3 light fixtures fall out of the ceiling! We came home from church one morning, and one of the chandeliers in the breakfast nook was sitting on the kitchen table where my child usually eats her breakfast. I was terrified! I immediately got to work choosing a new light fixture.

I was in love with the wood bead chandeliers from Ro Sham Beaux, but they were way out of my price range. The one featured below is listed for $3,555. It’s gorgeous!

I toyed with the idea of making my own, because I’m crazy like that, but I ended up finding this one from Pottery Barn for a very reasonable price. I’m still in love with it!

I found the breakfast table at a garage sale for $25 while taking a walk with my family one morning. I painted it turquoise and was gifted the chairs from a friend of mine. I painted them bright white and reupholstered the seats with floral oilcloth which makes them kid friendly for wiping up spills.

The breakfast nook got a coat of bright white paint along with bold black and white stripes. I made two curtain panels to match the curtains in the living room, and the green velvet Roman shades are a nod to my favorite movie, Gone with the Wind.
