Dining Room Makeover
Today, I want to share my very first makeover in our home…..our dining room! The dining room is directly to the left when you walk in the front door, so it makes a big first impression. When we moved in 3 years ago last April, I decided that not only did I want to host Thanksgiving for our 20+ family, but I wanted to host my very FIRST Thanksgiving and make my very FIRST turkey. If that wasn’t enough, I decided about 6 weeks out from Thanksgiving to demo and remodel my dining room so that it would be perfect. Why do I do this to myself? To say it was stressful, is an understatement, but I love some pressure to help me reach my goals.
Boring! My entire home was different shades of brown, so it was my mission to add color everywhere. I fell in love with the wallpaper below; Brazillance by Dorothy Draper. It has been used in Hollywood hotels and movie star homes. Oh and it costs about a million dollars, so I purchased some scraps on Etsy and framed them. Since I couldn’t have this wallpaper in my dining room, I decided to use it as inspiration for the green paint I chose. I ended up picking Caitlyn’s Kelly Green. I painted it on the top half of the wall and painted the ceiling bright white.
Next, I purchased my very first saw! See how excited I was when it came in the mail! I watched some YouTube videos and learned how to install board and batten. I spent hours calculating my design so that I would miss all of the electrical outlets.
I also bought my first nail gun and compressor!
I spent hours and hours painting the board and batten the same bright white as the ceiling. It took 4 coats.
I picked this stunning light fixture from All Modern. I love the gold hardware and the Sputnik design.
I chose a gorgeous pink linen fabric for my drapery and made giant green and white pom poms as my trim. I hung the curtains on a gold curtain rod that matches the chandelier.
One of the crazier things that I decided to do was purchase 6 brand new chairs from World Market, rip off all of the fabric immediately, and reupholster them in Buffalo Plaid. This project took FOREVER. I had lots of doubts and regrets during the process, but love the results!
Ta dah! A fresh, and bright dining room….perfect for a Thanksgiving meal.
