Powder Bath Makeover
I read that powder baths are a great place to make wild or bold design choices. Since it is such a small space, you can choose busy wallpaper or dramatic paint choices without it being overwhelming. You know how much I love bold design, so I decided to go for it in our powder bath.
I started with this Mood Board:
I’ve been loving Art Deco and its resurgence lately, so I knew I wanted the items in the room to have fan and geometric shapes. I also wanted the room to feel glamorous with lots of gold detail.
If you want your room to feel eclectic and lived in, it’s important that you choose at least one vintage item. For this room, I wanted to find a gaudy, vintage gold mirror. I ended up finding one at our local antique store! It was so heavy, that I had to rest while carrying it to the front of the store.
Here are the before photos:
The room was nice, but builder-grade. The walls were beige, with brown cabinets, and nothing interesting.
We started by skimming the walls to get rid of the texture in order to prepare for wallpaper. Then we installed board and batten to the bottom half of the walls and painted the cabinets a deep black. The cabinets got new hardware from Rejuvenation.
We also got white quartz countertops and a black, matte faucet from Home Depot. Next, we hung the wallpaper and installed new lighting. My original design was an above-the-sink light fixture, but the mirror was too tall, so I hired an electrician to move my lighting to the sides of the sink in order to install sconces. Design is all about problem solving!
I’m in love! It’s so fun to see this bathroom everyday. It makes me feel like I’m in a fancy hotel. Do you have a boring bathroom? Let me transform it for you!
