How to Store a Christmas Tree

My aunt Rozmary, who is an interior designer, taught me a genius way to store a Christmas tree. We bought this gorgeous flocked Christmas tree and ribbon last year and it took 3 days to decorate it. That’s a lot of work! I was dreading taking it all down and doing it again last year. Then, I learned a wonderful method! You can saran wrap your tree! We are lucky to have a 2-car garage, so I thought there might be room to store our tree there.

The first thing I did was built a rolling base so that we could roll the tree out of the way if need be.

I cut a square of plywood and rounded the edges with a jigsaw. You can totally skip the step of rounding the edges, but I thought it would be less likely to snag our tree skirt if they were rounded. Then, I drilled 4 holes on each corner to attach the wheels. You can find wheels, bolts, and nuts at your local hardware store. Next, I attached the wheels.

Then I drilled holes for the zip ties. The zip ties will hold the base of the tree to the plywood rolling base. You could also use some rope or string.

When you are ready to put your Christmas tree away for the year, just purchase some moving plastic wrap from the hardware store, and wrap up your tree. It took us about 15 minutes to wrap the tree up and store it in the garage. Next year, you can wheel it back into your home, cut off the plastic and fluff up the branches. Voila! All done! We only broke 2 ornaments using this technique, which I will claim as a win! Make sure you secure your ornaments to the tree using wire so they don’t fall off.
